Now that our bid has been rejected for Mackail-Smith, would a punt on Sam Baldock be worthwhile? Would probably be much cheaper from the franchise!

I’m based in Derby atm NTRA, finishing my degree, so did not watch local TV last night.
Funny thing is I have recommended a number of players over the years who have gone on to do well.
Steve Morison when he was first at Stevenage.
Liam Lawrence when he was at Mansfield.
David Nugent at Bury.
Matt Tubbs is another worth a gamble at Crawley.

Can’t say I have ever heard of him. Gutted about not being able to get CMS, would have been good but I hope we don’t offer over the odds.

Another good player from the lower league. But i suspect the main problem in the deal for Posh concerning CMS is the timing. They are themselves locked in a promotion battle, and loosing their (and leagues) top scorer at this time in the season would be costly.
The same could be said for Baldock at Franchise Dons, a good striker, but one the club will need in order to hunt down a place in the Championship.
If either was to join i would prefer CMS due to his all-round game, but do watch out for Baldock, he has a lot of talent.

If we were to get in CMS or Baldock, you would just hope he doesn’t go the way of Simo! HE is a good player but just doesn’t seem to be able to cut it at this level.
If we do go up it’d be a tad unfortunate as we wouldn’t get to see how Cody performs at this level. I recon he would play if we stay in this league. Doubt it if we go up.

The one difference between CMS and Sam Baldock being that they have and are proving themselves in league 1, Simmo was brought in straight from league two, very little time in league 1 and none in the Championship (too my knowledge)
CMS especially has done it all at a lower level, and hit double figures in the Championship last season, in a side which finished rock bottom.
TBH Im not sure Cody would cope much better in this league than Simmo, although i would like him too, he is doing the same as Jackson in league two, and would have a similar impact in league 1.
Maybe he will make it as a Championship striker, unfortunalty though i believe it will be with another club if he does.

I agree with you on Cody. I would love him to perform well at this level. I feel he’ll do better than Simo though as he just has far more to his all-round game. I really like the way he plays.
And in the case of CMS he probably would perform better than Jacko as he too has an all-round game that can be incredibly beneficial!
