Kyle Naughton excluded(only a loan) the signing we’ve made have generally been below standard. De Laet is an decent championship level player, Vaughan was only a little better than average at palace last year, Johnson and Morrison are good players are definately not going to be able to handle the premier league.
I said some months ago that we should have been targeting young players at the big clubs who were looking to move away. e.g welbeck,gibson,spearing, rose etc. I hoped that we would’ve signed a few more players with PL experience.
To be honest it just looks like we’re building a team for the championship after we’re relegated. Hope this defeatist attitude doesn’t spread around the players as they see players brought in who are on the same level as themselves.

I think you are being overly critical. Young decent English players at big clubs are unlikely to be coming our way. They are spied by bigger, permanent Prem teams. We are an attractive club but we would struggle to land those sort of players. We have got lots of lower league players, but they all have talent and potential and with a manager like Lambert you expect that talent to be well managed. Everyone said we weren’t building a Championship team and they went and got promoted. More faith in Lambert is needed. He hasn’t failed us yet!

All players were wanted by prem clubs so they doing something right.
And the welbeck and gibsons have eyes on bigger teams like sunderland etc spearing would be could but another youngster so not the experiance u wanted and rose done 1 good thing scoring that goall against arsenal ( never happen again) and then spend last seaoson at bristol city

i said excluding Naughton- i consider him the best player we’ve signed so far. De Laet ,Vaughan,Morrison will never cut it in the PL im all for putting faith in Lambert but im not going to be convinced that them 3 players are going to be around for the long-term. I was using welbeck gibson etc as examples of the type of players we should try to bring in. I’m happy to give championship players the chance in the PL to prove themselves like morrison(i hope he proves me wrong) but he’s 27, never played in the top league and has hardly set the lower leagues alight except for 1 good season which was last year. 292games 134goals all in the lower leagues 1 year in the championship.
Im trying not to be overly critical and i like these players as individuals but they’re not gonna make an impact on the PL IMHO. sorry

Presumably you are basing your assessment of these players on their performances in pre -season ? If so, don’t you think you should wait a bit?
Vaughan has cut it in the premiership,only stopped by injury.
Be interesting to revisit this one at end of October.

To be honest I’m still waiting for Bennett to do something spectacular. I know pre season has a lot of chopping and changing and we are just getting them warmed up but I haven’t really heard much about him in any of the games. Does anyone know how he is looking?

Of course PL could get any of these signings wrong. I was not impressed with R Martin or Crofts coming in…But Crofts was great and Martin brilliant! For the first half of the season we heard Holt and Jackson would not make it. What was it 21 and 13 goals?
Just look how many Prem players are now in the championship. It’s not just a case of ability or experience (though both must help!) its about teamwork, squad depth and hard work.
In the transfer market you need a bit of luck or a great deal of money!
PL has added pace and strength of character to the squad. Maybe we will not end up with 7 success stories but I’m sure we will have several.
I’m thrilled with Morrison and Pilkington: Holt style aggression and Hucks flair. Vaughan is a Prem player…but could be a good Prem player.
We have done better than QPR , Swansea, Wigan and Blackburn in the transfer market. We are in with a shout!

Well said CFJ. Lambert knows what he is doing and you can’t judge these players at all. They all bring an extra dimension and depth to the squad which is a great thing.
As for my comment about Bennett, seems he took it on board as he had a great game against Cov.

I wouldn’t read to much into performances and results right now. nobody is going to go 100% at moment as they want to get fit but not injured before the season starts.
Give it 10 games and then we will see!
