First of all, Well Done to all for getting the site back to normal, great t see it working again and running smoothly.
Below is my blog, The Fa Cup part is what I would of published on Friday but was unable to due to site difficulties, so I’ve done you and extended piece about the Bunrley Cup win with Saturday’s great 3 points at West Brom towards the end of my blog. Thanks, Hope you enjoy.
Well, I don’t know about you, but for someone like me who is of the Younger Generation of NCFC fans, last Saturday’s brilliant 4-1 Fa Cup win over Burnley at Carrow Road was possibly the highlight in Cup Football of my 11 years as a Norwich City fan.
Yes I know in that time we’ve had a couple of good runs into Round 5, a couple of trips to Stamford Bridge, which were all very nice days out when we were a Lower League club, and also I remember being at a very entertaining 4th round replay at home to Blackpool 4 or 5 years back which we won 3-2. However before last Saturday in recent years, We’ve sat through some pretty disgraceful cup days and nights at Carrow Road and on the road…
I could name you that Home game with Bury in the 3rd round, where we needed Gary Doherty to get us a late equaliser, just so we could just get a replay, of course we subsequently were defeat in an embarrassing way back at Gigg Lane.
I could also give you that awful 3rd round replay between ourselves and Charlton, when we were both in the Bottom 3 of the Championship, the game was awful and Charlton took a chance and pinched a 1-0 win. You’ll remember the Glen Roeder out protests outside afterwards and the subsequent sacking the following day.
The poor cup days did indeed continue under Paul Lambert, that poor showing during our League 1 season at Carlisle when we were Live on the Fa.com website forsome unknown reason.
We followed that up in the following season with a standard 3rd round exit by a goal to nil against Leyton Orient.
All that was topped by the embarrassment which was the MK Dons 4-0 reverse at Carrow Road back in August.
However, Burnley’s visit to Carrow Road on third Round day brough something that we hadn’t witnessed before, a truly wonderful Norwich City Fa Cup performance.
It was fantastic when the team ran out to see all the usual faces, It was mostly our strongest team, which was great. Lambert wanted to get through, and we did just that.
Two early goals, confidence all around the ground, Ok Burnley got back into it, but we clinched it with two second half strikes to make it a deserved comfortable 4-1 win.
You hear all the talk about Cup Run’s can affect League form, Whats that about? We returned to Barclays Premier League action on Saturday in great fashion, In what was a tough away game at West Brom.
You couldn’t of moaned if West Brom had it won by Half Time, they were all over us, but we defended incredibly well to keep them out.
Andrew Surman’s goal just before the break was the icing on the cake, Incredible that we went in 1-0 up at Half Time.
West Brom weren’t as dominate second half although they were still the better side, and of course got the Penalty, Ayala for me, could have been sent off, probably should have. Inconsistency done us a favour with that one.
So the penalty was scored, 1-1. That would of still been a could result for us. As ever though, Lambert makes inspired changes to win the game, and we did just that.
Great break away, Holt down the left, brilliant cross, Morison header! Fantastic,2-1 lead for us. We held on to get make it 2 away wins on the spin.
We are having a truly incredible season, Great times in the Premier League and Fa Cup. 9th place on 28 points is amazing!
I’ll be back on Friday in my usual blog slot with a look ahead to the Chelsea game at Carrow Road on Saturday.
ON THE BALL CITY!!!!!!!!!!
