Just to show how delusional Barry Fry is, he has placed a price tag on CMS over half the amount that VDV cost Spurs! Crazy.

yeah that has just sort of summed up Fry`s value really hasn`t it? I wouldn`t rate smith at no more than 1 million to be honest, even a million is being generous.

Mil, Mil and a half I would say. Definitely not going to pay Premiership money for a league 1 player! Fry is delusional!

Crazy isn’t it, albeit Van De Vart was an absolute steal in today’s market, id stick him up their at 40 million plus, look at Berbatov etc.

Id rather have VDV than Torres!

Transfer fees are almost beyond belief for us ordinary people. And then there are the weekly wage bills for some players…….!

yeah wonder what the weekly wage would be for our players if we go up?

Not a patch on the established Prem clubs i’d say, Ratpack. They pay over the odds for over rated players far too often. Look at Torres, £50 million fee, must be on about £100,000 a week and he has done bugger all for Chelsea. Easily the steal of the campaign has been VDV. Seems the newer managers in this league just want to show off their cash (Chelsea and Liverpool(Though Kenny isn’t exactly new, but you know what i mean)) We need more cool heads about the place to show people how it’s done. Man U got Hernandez on the cheap and Harry at Spurs got VDV. Not enough prudence in too many clubs. THat’s why im glad we have PL, he really knows how to find a bargain. Just look at our squad, We could have bought 5 teams for the amount they spent on Torres!

Running a football club must be like being a tightrope walker without a safety net.

Some clubs act as if they do not know the safety net is missing and their fans will surely feel the consequences in either the short term or long term.

bit like hull and wigan spent most on player wages. Hull got relegated and are now struggling to keep their top earners. Wouldn`t want us to go the same way as those as its a dangerous game to play.

WE’d be ok signing players on decent wages as long as wage decreases if we’re relegated were written into their contracts like other teams have done. Otherwise it wouldn’t be worth the risk signing players like Bullard on 40k a week. On the OP’s topic Van der vaart was a great bit of business brought about by Real Madrid having too many players on their books and only being allowed to name a certain amount in their squads. It would’ve meant players like van der vaart would’ve been sitting around picking up wages without being able to play so they offloaded him quickly at a cut price.

Welcome NorwichSity!

Really good comment, players wages need to be in alignment with the level and importance to the team, throw in affordability which is really down to level that you play at!
